How to send caramel apples as a gift: what to know first

Sending a caramel apple as a gift is simple if you plan for four things: timing, freshness, a well-made apple, and the right box size. Here is the short checklist, with our real prices.

To send caramel apples as a gift, order early, pick a box size that matches your recipient count, and make sure someone can receive the package at a US address. Then check the freshness window and the allergen list before you pay. Dairy is in every apple.

This guide covers what a gift buyer should settle before clicking order: timing, freshness, what a good gift apple looks like, which size to pick, and where we ship.

How far ahead should you order?

Earlier than you think. A caramel apple is made to order, so your apple does not exist until you place the order. That is good for freshness. It also means the clock starts when you buy, not when you decide.

Here is what we can tell you for certain. Orders placed by Thursday ship the following Monday. The Single Gift Apple page has an optional requested delivery date field, and we will aim for that date. It is a request, not a guarantee, so we do not promise a specific arrival day.

So the practical rule is this: if the gift has a deadline, such as a birthday, a Halloween party or a thank-you dinner, order at least a week ahead. Two weeks is better in October and November, when everyone else is ordering too. And if the apple is for a big date, add a day or two of cushion on top.

How fresh are caramel apples, and how do you store them?

Caramel apples have a short window at their best. We say so on our about page: best within five days of shipping. We size our batches around that window, so what leaves the kitchen is what we would eat ourselves.

That window is why you should avoid sending an apple to someone who is about to travel, or to an office that is closed for the week. Pick a delivery spot where a person will be home or at a desk.

For storage on arrival, use plain common sense. Open the box, check the apple, and keep it away from heat and direct sun. If you need to hold it a little, a cool spot works better than a warm counter. Caramel softens when it warms. We do not publish a fridge-or-counter rule beyond that, so if you want specifics for your recipient's climate, email us at caught-wanting@sogoodmail.co and we will answer.

Tell the recipient it is coming. A short heads-up text is the cheapest freshness tool there is.

What a good gift apple looks like

Not every caramel apple is a gift. A good one has four things you can check before you order.

  1. A firm, tart apple. Ours is a Granny Smith, which holds the caramel coat steady.
  2. A coating that is dipped once and set. Each apple is spun to coat evenly, then held still until the caramel grabs. Rushed dipping leaves thin spots.
  3. Real hand work in a small kitchen. Our apples are hand-dipped, with the caramel made in small batches and checked with a thermometer, not a clock. We make them in a commercial kitchen.
  4. Packaging built for the mail. The apple should sit in its own slot in a box, not loose in tissue. Ours is gift-boxed with a card slot and ships in protective packaging.

Which size fits your occasion?

Count your recipients first. One apple per person is the simplest rule, and a gift that has to be split is not much of a gift.

OccasionRecipientsPickPrice
A thank-you or teacher gift1The Single Gift Apple$15
A one-time seasonal flavor for a friend1Seasonal Flavor Drop$17
A couple, or two teachers2The Duo Box$28
A small family or team4The Orchard Set$52
An office or a client list12The Dozen$105

Two things worth knowing. The Duo Box is $28 for two, while two singles cost $30, so it is cheaper and arrives as one box. And free US shipping starts at $28, which the Duo Box lands on exactly. A single apple at $15 sits below that line, so shipping is extra on its own. If you were about to send two, the Duo Box is the cleaner order.

The Dozen is ordered through a contact form, with bulk gift-wrapping and a custom card. Start that one early.

If you are still sorting out the count, our post on how many caramel apples to order works through gifts, parties and offices.

US shipping, allergens and the note card

We ship to US addresses only. If you are sending to family abroad, we cannot help yet. If the gift is going to an office, confirm someone will be there to take it in.

Allergens come before anything else. Caramel contains dairy, so dairy is in every apple, with no exception. Toppings vary by flavor combination, and each product page lists the full allergen list. If your recipient has an allergy, read that list before you order, and write to us if it is unclear.

Last, the note. Add a note card message at checkout. Keep it short: a name and one good line is plenty. The gift box add-on, with ribbon, tissue paper and a keepsake box, is optional on the product page.

Your next step

Pick your recipient count, choose the size from the table, and set a requested delivery date with a few days to spare. Then open the product page, add your note and order. The Single Gift Apple is the easiest place to start: one apple, gift-ready, $15.
